I can’t believe it slipped my mind
that awful morn in Nazi France
when Allies stormed the lethal sands
where Axis made defiant stance

exploding beaches under fire
entrained on boys of valiant heart
who came in waves no battleground
had ever felt when blown apart

so many gallants died that day
where Europe kneels into the sea
but tides were turned on fascist guns
while beachheads held for liberty

the night marked fallen heroes lain
across a hundred clicks of sprawl
from here would launch a three week siege
to instigate the Third Reich’s fall
